When it comes time to get a gift for grandma, it can be hard to know what to get. She may be the kind of person who already has everything. If you are stumped for ideas, the ones below should help you get started.
Photos
Grandmas love photos. And not just photos of her grandkids either, although they are always great. Pictures of her with her grandchildren, or pictures of the whole family can be great gifts.
- Look for one special picture that is just you and her. Then find a frame that says “I love Grandma” and frame the picture. If you can’t find a frame that you like, craft stores have embellishments you can add to a frame to make it your own.
- Look for a set of photos from the same event and put them in a multi-picture frame or make a collage of them. One year for Christmas, my husband and I picked out the best photos of us from our wedding, as well as a couple of good pictures of us with my brother and gave them to my grandma. We did a similar collage for his grandparents as well.
- Look for a small photo album and fill it with family pictures. Many photo albums have embossed covers that look very nice.
- Check into making a custom calendar with pictures of family, or you and grandma on every month. Add your favorite of her sayings or quotes you think she would like as well.
- If you like scrapbooking, then you can create a scrapbook of family photos. Similar to a photo album, but with a scrapbook, you can highlight a particular event, such as a holiday party, with cute 3D embellishments, alphabet letters, and photo mats.
- If your grandma has a favorite picture of you, or you and her, check into having the photo made into a piece of art. There are several places that will take a photograph and make it look like a painting.
Memories
You don’t get to be a grandma unless you have lived long enough to have collected quite a few cherished memories. Many grandmothers would love gifts that celebrated those memories.- There are many books that allow you to record information from your life. Look for ones designed as a type of legacy book, with spots to record memories, sayings, and pictures that she wants to pass on.
- Contact family and her friends and collect stories from her past, favorite poems, quotes, and images of her and her friends. Present them either in a pretty photo album or create a scrapbook of them.
Create From Scratch
Children usually find it easy to draw or paint a picture, or write a story to give to their grandmothers, and grandmothers love them. They also love these items given to them by their older, even adult grandchildren. Everyone can be creative, so take a little bit of time and create something by hand.
- Write her a poem
- Write a short story about a time you spent with her
- If you play and instrument, compose her a song. It doesn’t have to be long, she will like it even if it only has one verse. It doesn’t even have to have words – make it instrumental. Or, find out her favorite song and learn to play it.
Other Gifts
There are lot of other gifts that grandmas like. The following are some more ideas.
- Look for something fun that emphasizes being young. Even though she’s a grandma doesn’t mean is old
- Bake her a quick bread or cookies and make a nice card to go with it. Or, treat her to a home-cooked meal and make her favorite recipe.
- Pick an object, such as marbles or shells and she what you can create. Use them in the bottom of vase and fill it with flowers. Or, embed them into a homemade garden stepping stone, or wall plaque.
Whatever you decide to get your grandma for a gift, she is sure to like it if you have put some thought into. Make it personal and she is sure to treasure it.
