Getting married is a happy occasion that brings laughter, tears, and lots of gifts. Engagement gifts, bridal shower gifts, and wedding gifts. But, when you’ve been invited to the bridal shower, what do you get the bride?

Registry Pizazz

With the internet it is very easy for the bride and groom to create a wedding registry. By the time of the bridal shower, if the couple are going to have a registry, they have created one. While it’s in poor taste to ask the happy couple where they have their registry, it’s perfectly fine, even expected to ask the host or others in the wedding party.

So, while it’s not super imaginative, your first thought for what to get the bride is something from her registry. However, before you click away, there are lots of ways to make buying off of the registry anything but boring.

When making a registry, couples tend to shop in groups of items. They will look for lots of stuff for the kitchen, the bathroom, and linens. A fun way to jazz up your gift is purchase several like items and group them into a gift basket.

  • If there are several baking pans on the list, buy them all and include the ingredients for a recipe. For instance, items for making cupcakes: mixing bowls, bowl scrapers, cupcake tins, and oven liner could be items all on the list. Add cake mix, frosting, and a recipe for gourmet cupcakes and you have a great gift.
  • If they have several bed items on the list, make them up a full bed set. Sheets, pillowcases, bed skirt, and comforter or duvet. Include a small, sweet smelling potpourri packet – vanilla is a good scent – to keep them smelling nice while in the closet.

If the bride and groom don’t have a registry, which may be the case if they already have a house, or are combining homes, then you will need to think outside the box a bit.

  • Just about every woman likes to be pampered. A nice selection of items for pampering would make a great gift. Get a comfy set of pajamas or a robe to start. If you aren’t sure of the size, then go for the biggest, softest bath towel you can find. Add in body wash, bubble bath, lotion, and a loofah. Many stores sell a line of bath products all in the same scent so this should be straightforward.
  • Get a collection if items about marriage. Perhaps a plaque, or small framed quote. Include a small picture frame and a figurine.
  • Put together a few of the couple’s favorite recipes. Poll the wedding party and parents for a list of their top meals. Then type up the recipes on pretty cards and present in a basket with a recipe holder and as many of the ingredients as possible that won’t go bad.

Getting a gift for a bridal shower shouldn’t be stressful. Just keep in mind what the bride and groom want, based on their registry, or look for items that they can use at any time and will appreciate.
