You likely know if you suffer from low self esteem. Often times this view causes people to assume a specific perspective. Self doubt and the-glass-is-half-empty thinking is a common result. The problem with poor self worth is that it can possibly cause poor performance. There are techniques that can increase self esteem, especially with enough support.

Many times, the low self esteem is a result of a perceived failure. For example, if your child fails at school, you may take it upon yourself, believing that you failed as a parent. Similarly, parents often blame themselves for their children’s psychological problems, such as childhood anxieties or depression, even though the research shows, that many times the parents are not to blame at all.

It is natural to feel this way, however it isĀ  essential to be aware that your poor self esteem is an acquired behavior and thought and believe pattern. There may be many contributors to this specific mindset, as described previously, but in general you started believing the attitudes and words spoken by others around you, as well as your own. Basically, you convinced yourself that you failed, rather than truly investigated the real reasons of why things did not go the way they were intended to.

We acquire our self concept and impressions as we are growing up. This behavior is shaped by numerous factors. If you did not receive praise and support when you were small, that may adversely impact your self image. All small children and adolescents are very sensitive to outside influences because they believe in authority figures. Sometimes, the authority figures are the parents, but many times they are friends and classmates, who also determine our self concept. These earlier influences continue to affect us as we mature, and if they are too negative, they often lead to development of social anxiety in children and teenagers as well.

The first step towards improving how you feel about yourself is to decide to do something about it. You will experience empowerment, and hopefully a little self-confidence, if you educate yourself about the subject. Likewise, it is extremely crucial to comprehend and accept that a change like this takes some time. And so you must be patient and work on it slowly but surely. You start by evaluating your thoughts. As you run through your day, observe your feelings carefully. You’ll start to be cognizant of habitual thinking patterns. You have to see what you are working with so you will realize what you need to do.

Many techniques are available to work with. A superb place to begin is with your general attitude. Begin modifying some simple negative thoughts by choosing to concentrate on even the smallest achievements. Make it a habit to replace a bad thought with a positive one. Practical exercises can help you get better sooner than you think. Simply remember something specific you have done that went right. You will surely find something that was positive. You can opt for the littlest thing to feel positive about. One optimistic thought leads to another.

Seeing what’s positive will before long be a second nature to you. You can set off to create a completely new attitude. Likewise, begin building up your mind to deflect all the mental chatter and junk. A positive result is guaranteed if you persevere. It has taken you many years to acquire the old habits, so be forbearing in your efforts to become better.
